Cancer Australia in Partnership with the NHMRC launches
This grant program focuses on improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enhance equitable cancer care, build research skills among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers, and support local leadership in cancer research. It aims to involve communities in designing research for their benefit and strengthen partnerships between communities, health services, and academic institutions. These are key objectives in both the Australian Cancer Plan and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Plan.
Partnerships can be between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led organisations and mainstream organisations (including research groups and cancer services), or between two or more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led organisations.
Each research partnership can apply for a grant between $0.8 to $2.5 million over a maximum 3-year grant period commencing June 2025.

Improving Health Outcomes of People with Intellectual Disability Grant Opportunity
There are 3 streams in this offer.
Stream 1: conduct large-scale, multidisciplinary projects, in partnership with the health and disability sector and people with lived experience, to develop, optimise and/or evaluate person-centred approaches for preventive health care for people with intellectual disability.
Stream 2: develop and/or evaluate approaches to support health care transitions across life stages for people with intellectual disability, through co-design with the health and disability sector and people with lived experience.
Stream 3: develop, optimise and/or implement screening or diagnostic tools for mental health and/or physical health issues in people with intellectual disability.

New South Wales Health
Aboriginal Health Grants | Closes 13 December 2024
The Aboriginal Heart Health Grants fund high impact Aboriginal-led research. The $5 million in funding is part of the Cardiovascular (CV) Research Capacity Program and aim to:
- improve CV health outcomes for Aboriginal peoples
- increase the number of targeted Aboriginal CV research projects being undertaken in NSW, and
- build the capacity of Aboriginal communities and researchers in CV focused research.
There are two funding streams
Stream 1: Maximum grant of $750,000
Stream 2: Maximum grant of $250,000
Who can apply
All projects must be led by a Chief Investigator who identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Applications are encouraged from Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Aboriginal Medical Services, Aboriginal peak bodies, local health districts, specialty health networks and other public health organisations. Researchers from universities, medical research institutes and not-for-profit organisations are also eligible to apply.

The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care is leading and will work closely with the National Health and Medical Research Council on the development of a National Health and Medical Research Strategy (National Strategy).
Purpose | The National Strategy is to deliver a plan to strengthen and leverage Australia's world-leading research capability, delivering better health outcomes from a productive and efficient research ecosystem.
You are invited to participate in the National Strategy Chair Webinar on Thursday 5 December 2024, from 2.00pm to 3.00pm AEDT.

The AusSMC (Australian Science Media Centre) is passionate about encouraging Indigenous scientists to engage with the media. By sharing their knowledge, expertise and stories, Indigenous scientists can inspire others to follow in their footsteps.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Diabetes Across the Lifecourse: Northern Australia Partnership (the Partnership) commenced in 2011 in the Northern Territory and expanded into Far North Queensland in 2016. Originally focussed on the establishment of a clinical register and research activities to improve the care and outcomes for women (and their babies) who have had a pregnancy complicated by diabetes, our work has now expanded to include a focus on type 2 diabetes in children and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
The Partnership has a range of research projects that aim to enhance prevention, early-intervention and management of diabetes. As such, the Diabetes Across the Lifecourse: Northern Australia Partnership is seeking a talented First Nations researcher to support existing projects (such as those focussed on diabetes in pregnancy), and to develop, lead, and sustain his/her own program of work. The successful candidate will also participate in the Partnership’s Research Leadership Group, a group of researchers who work collaboratively under the direction of the Partnership Lead. In addition, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability and commitment to mentoring students and staff.

The project you will be working on is located and delivered in collaboration with the South West of Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS), a Noongar organisation, headquartered in Bunbury, delivering comprehensive primary health care (CPHC) in WA’s South West. The project focus is on developing and implementing culturally informed data measures and tools, essential for SWAMS to achieve improved delivery of CPHC services and programs, by applying Indigenous data sovereignty principles.
Your role will include: drafting a research ethics application; undertaking research activities such as literature reviews and the collection and organisation of data. Further, you will support the project Chief Investigator to coordinate the running of the project including managing project documentation, drafting project reports, managing project Investigator meetings, coordinating research outputs, and supporting applications for further funding for Phase 2 of the project.
